The Pin Up Comic Girls of Stanley Lau AKA Artgerm

Stanley Lau has spent the last several years designing some of the comic world's most eye-catching pinups. Batgirl, Catwoman, Power Girl and Poison Ivy are just a few of the DC characters that have received the Artgerm treatment. Beyond comics, Lau has devoted work to Capcom favorites like Chun Li and Morrigan as well as recent Disney hits like Frozen and Maleficent.

Employing a style that borrows as much from the world of anime as comics, artgerm's work is both vibrant and alluring. Though comic artists have received a lot of warranted criticism over the past several years regarding unrealistic and hypersexualized depictions of female characters, it seems that Lau is contributing less to comic misogyny as working in a long tradition of pinup artists comfortable with depicting sexuality with attitude, strength, and a certain level of tongue and cheek playfulness.

Lau's work for mags like Justice and companies like Capcom suggests that digital artists can compete and create with the best of them.
